5 big ideas from Google's ?Winning the Zero Moment of Truth? ? The ...

June 30th, 2011 by Tara DeMarco Marketing Writer

?The best brands consistently win two moments of truth,? said Kevin Roberts, CEO of Procter & Gamble, in 2005. ?The first moment occurs at the store shelf, when a consumer decides whether to buy one brand or another. The second occurs at home, when she uses the brand ? and is delighted, or isn't.?

That ?first moment of truth,? or FMOT, became a huge focus for marketers, and still is today. But the minds at Google have introduced a new moment of truth: the ?zero moment of truth,? or ZMOT. At ZMOT, shoppers are ?pre-shopping? online ? researching products and brands, reading reviews, watching videos, asking questions.

For most consumers, pre-shopping involves discovering what others think ? their friends, people with shared interests, actual product owners, etc. Seventy percent of Americans look at product reviews before a purchase. User-generated content like reviews and community Q&A helps shoppers find the right products for their individual needs ? allowing many shoppers (and more every day) to make purchase decisions at ZMOT, before they ever visit the aisle. In his ebook out today, Jim Lecinski, Managing Director, U.S. Sales & Service at Google, urges marketers to shift their focus to ZMOT with a simple and compelling argument: consumers already have.

We?re excited to be featured in Google?s ?Winning the Zero Moment of Truth,? which is available to read and discuss here (the Twitter hashtag is #ZMOT). Here are a few big ideas from the ebook, with quotes from featured executives.

Embrace pre-shopping as part of buying. ?Pre-shopping before buying has become a huge, huge part of customer behavior. In the past, it was pretty much confined to big-ticket items like cars, or expensive electronics or homes. Now people engage in discovery before shopping on very small things. It's crossed all categories of shopping behavior. It's just the way people buy today.?

? Bob Thacker, SVP, Advertising, OfficeMax

Your brand is what customers say it is. ?The days of controlling the message are absolutely over. At best you?ll be invited in and you?ll get to co-create and participate with consumers.?

? Wendy Clark, Senior Vice President, Integrated Marketing Communications and Capabilities, Coca-Cola.

Conversation is a real-time focus group. "ZMOT is an incredible source of insight for brands to really understand how satisfied their customers are on a real-time basis? An observant product manager can find out precisely why they've been getting a high return rate or why they've been getting high sales."

? Brett Hurt, Founder & CEO, Bazaarvoice

Stop interrupting; be there when shoppers need you. ?Engagement with the customer today isn't just pouring a message down on their head and hoping they get wet. It really is understanding that you must be present in a conversation when they want to have it, not when you want to.?

? Bob Thacker, SVP, Advertising, OfficeMax

Serve shoppers, or your competitors will. ?You'd never set up a corporate 1-800 number with nobody to answer the phone? The Internet is that 1-800 number, and it's been set up for you even though you didn't ask for it. People are ?calling? you with their web searches every minute of every day. Grandma doesn't just phone 1-800-Butterball now ? she searches online for, ?How do I know when the turkey?s done?? If turkey is your business, you'd better be there with a helpful answer (and maybe a demonstration, or a coupon, or a stuffing recipe). If people search for your product and you don't answer that search, who do you think will answer??

? Jim Lecinski, Managing Director U.S. Sales & Service, Google

Successful marketing at ZMOT will deliver relevant information to shoppers, when the shopper wants it, to help them make purchase decisions and buy confidently. As Jim notes before his interview with Brett below (link for our blog subscribers), Google searches for customer reviews have risen over the past two years. As more consumers engage in pre-shopping, opinions from real product owners and ?people like me? will play an increasingly important role in winning the zero moment of truth.

Benefits of a Serviced Office

There is no doubt that more people are seeking out ways to save money in the business world. Since owning a business can be extremely costly, there is a need to start looking at some alternatives that are available. One option is a serviced office and it does hold a number of benefits.

Take for example you have the chance to maintain your cash flow better. What most people might not understand is that when you are a standard tenant in an office building, you are required to pay quarterly. This will require a sizable amount of money up front. However, when you look at a serviced office, you are going to have the chance to handle the payments on a monthly basis. Along with that, there isn't a 5 year commitment that many leasing offices require for spaces. That will help you to focus on the present and not have to worry about potential growth or hitting a lull at some point in the history of your business.

Another great option that comes with a serviced office is the fact that you are able to start the very same day. There is no need to spend time that you own a space to install equipment and ensure that everything is functioning properly. You can simply the space, install your software and assign desks in this office environment.

Another excellent example of how a serviced office can benefit you is the fact that you are able to adjust the space requirements you have in this process. For example, you are going to find that you are able to expand the area you need fairly easily or decrease the size of your space, depending on your overall needs.

Since some staff is actually included in the price of your space, you are going to find that you are able to reduce some of your monthly overhead costs as well. Especially since these are going to be individuals that you are able to trust and make the most out of using in this process as well. Of course, you can use the money saved to add an additional member to your team and have a greater impact in your industry as well.

Remember, there are going to be a number of different reasons why you will want to consider serviced offices as being the best choices for you. Take your time to explore each of the different companies that are willing to provide you with a space and determine which ones are going to give you the best overall value in this process.

The serviced office is going to be one of the top choices that you are going to have, no matter if you are a startup business or that that is looking to simply expand. Just be sure that you take your time to get a better understanding of how it works and what features are available to you at the different locations available for the best possible results.

Just Me and My Baby: Is Motherhood Enough? ? Clutch Magazine

While it seems like everyone I know has a bun in the oven, fertility has always been up in the air for me. But it wasn?t until weeks before a major surgery and my 30th birthday that the desire to have a child hit me like a ton of bricks. The feeling has since died down, and for now, the idea of motherhood doesn?t dictate or validate my existence, but it?s definitely on my radar.

I recently watched The Back-Up Plan, starring Jennifer Lopez for the first time. After a self-imposed deadline to find ?The One? passed, Lopez?s character put her back-up plan? to have a child into action. She was willing and ready to raise the child alone because it was what she really wanted.

Statistics are scarce, but there are an increasing number of single women conceiving and adopting children alone. Called ?Choice Moms,? these women, mostly in their 30s and 40s, have decided to become mothers through conception or adoption with or without a partner. In a 2009 CNN.com article, Mikki Morrissette, founder of ChoiceMoms.org said there were about 50,000 Choice Moms beginning families. Given their contemporary approach towards motherhood, I wondered if after giving birth would they consider their lives complete or just beginning.

There?s a scene in the television adaptation of Gloria Naylor?s The Women of Brewster Place between Oprah Winfrey?s character, Mattie, and Miss Eva, an elderly widow whom she lived with, with her young son, Basil. Miss Eva would badger her about her life, and ?romantic relationships especially, even asking, ?When?s the last time you had somebody in your bed?? Mattie replied, ?Basil sleeps in my bed every night.?

I cringe at that scene because Winfrey?s fictitious character, more than 20-years-old, is the mirror image of so many women today. They are unconsciously are using their children to fill voids, leaving them unfulfilled and unhappy. (Mattie, though the story?s matriarch and nurturer, remained alone throughout the movie, by the way. She was chastised for it by several characters.)

Though having a family is beyond important to me, I?m terrified of becoming a victim of what I think Mattie had: the ?Just Me and My Baby? syndrome. This occurs when the woman has a child and officially checks out on her own life. Should she get the opportunity to gain anything else of value that could be added to her or her child?s life, she passes it up out of fear, complacency or the goal to be Super-Mom. ?She thinks, ?It?s just me and my baby (against the world).?

I pose this question, which might only be answered with time and experience: Am I wrong, or selfish even, for wanting the entire package?a mate and a full life, or am I just an ignorant, childless woman who has not yet experienced the matchless joys of motherhood? Will that be enough?

A friend summed up my thoughts succinctly, saying, ?I don?t want my kids to be my life. They?re gonna leave me in 18 years ? then what?? When my nest is empty or even when the children are away at a summer camp or visiting friends, will I ask myself, ?Who are you again?? Attempting to live your best life can easily become lost among children?s education, extracurricular activities and everyday motions. True living includes not only being a good parent, but nurturing romantic relationships and friendships, social involvement, spirituality, career development, etc.

Most mothers peg their biggest accomplishment as having children, but it doesn?t have to be their only accomplishment. We should be encouraged to begin or continue to pursue personal interests and passions, as well as family interests after children are born. That is not selfish, but attempting to be a whole person, which affects the whole family.

Conversely, there?s nothing wrong with getting off the train at the baby stop. If a woman?s only desire is to bear children and raise a family, with or without a man, there?s no rule book that says she can?t. My personal hope whenever and however I begin my family is that I experience joy and satisfaction in my life, and ride it until the wheels fall off. That joy could come from seeing my child?s smile when he or she wakes me up for breakfast, carving out time for a Girls Night Out or completing a volunteer project.

I hope that?s not asking too much.

ESL Book Review-Zero Prep-Ready-to-go activities for foreign ...

Ok, it's a cliche to say that a book changed your life, but this book has changed my. Cut my preparation time to minutes. With the activities in this book, I learned to teach for two hours, with only half a page of notes.

The authors do not say do not plan on speaking teachers. You tell them, not over-prepare: Ingredients dictation and comprehension questions, vocabulary preview in the readings. In preparation, the teacher can alsobusy and too tired to perform well in class.

Read this book and not fall into the trap again. Instead, you get your ads in the activity of listening to do. The granting of a class of beginners reluctant to speak not with Tell It Like It. Use any set of instructions to create an acting out Dictacomp ? combines an activity, the TPR with the letter and also promotes cooperation. Doing the unthinkable and make the sentence structure of a source of entertainment with a contraction of the phraseand expansion. I did all that and so can you.

The book is divided into chapters, icebreakers, listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary and structure (grammar). Each chapter contains instructions for six to 22 low-preparation activities. Indexes group routine tasks (brainstorming, chain-blank, etc.) and use (class cohesion, preview, review, billing). Although most activities have progressed to advanced students, there is about 30 forBeginners, and many others are adapted for them. (The authors of a book for beginners classes have published.)

So they stop to be retrieved until late into the night before the class worksheets and vocabulary circle. As the cover copy says: "If the teachers to teach less, learn more, students!"

Why You Don't Need To Worry About What Exercise Burns The Most ...

This article has been viewed 14 times.

I don?t know how many times I have been asked ?what exercise burns the most calories?or?how often I should go to the gym.? Before I even begin to open my mouth, I have to take a step back and evaluate the actual question. I have found that the majority of those asking are desperately trying to figure out a way to offset their bad diets. So I answer with ?how many calories do you plan on consuming in excess?? Let?s say you are consuming around 1,000-3,000 more calories per week than you need, but you are doing cardio like a ninja master in the gym just to burn those extra 1,000-3,000 leaves you with 0 fat loss. You will ultimately be the same size. Where?s the calorie deficit?

Exercise Less with Better Results

This past month I have been extremely busy and my workouts were very limited because of it. I didn?t realize it at the time but I only managed to go to the gym three times in two weeks. Yet, I noticed that my abs and overall physique still looked pretty darn good. Within those two weeks I also noticed that I ate much smaller meals than I normally do, even while I was doing my intermittent fasting. So I was still getting good fat loss results without the gym time.

What About A Calorie Blasting Workout?

Hold, your horses! The key reason why I did not plain reveal what exercise burns the most calories is simply because many folks don?t wind up in a good work out using the right mindset. People spend hrs and hrs during a workout session attempting to get slimmer but question why you will find no changes with regards to physiques. So they really quit. It?s like someone looking at a magazine using a 1,000 pages regarding how to earn money and grow effective. The 1st page the article author informs you to visit an internet site for the exact blueprint to make wealth because relaxation on the book is stuffed with existence training. Individuals will switch while using the book for hrs on finish in search of the chapter and paragraph concerning how to earn money immediately. You should not think it is to ensure you quit. Yet, whole time that it was on-page 1.

You Can?t Go Wrong With HIIT Workouts

High intensity interval training is a common recommendation within this site for those who want to burn a lot of calories while increasing HGH. You can apply the principles to a lot of different styles of exercises but I have found it to be the most beneficial when used in conjunction with swimming, sprinting, or bodyweight cardio. I?m always a fan of getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time.

My Effective Tip Which Will Forever Improve Your Thinking About Exercise!

My business is inclined when you consider in a different way than some people. I?ve learned tips on how to ultimately ?see the larger picture? when it demands lot of something more important. With this being stated, this is how I view exercise for weight loss. I?m in a position to stick to a clean diet because I can?t are in position to think about applying a good deal intensity into HIIT just to burn the extra calories that i consumed with zero weight loss. On the flipside of things, I can?t go without having done any intense cardio because I recognize how amazing it?s to combine the energy of tough cardio working with a calorie deficit. I?m telling youyour body will cherish you because of this.

Take Some Time With Simple Exercises Outdoors

You have no clue how happy I?m that the summer months has finally arrived. I seriously think the entirecountry is relieved to acquire some nice weather after probably the most brutal and lengthy winter time for years and years. Since I enjoy be outdoors, I?ll utilize my outside activities with simple exercises. I like to walk, swim and ride bikes. It?s amazing how you observe and notice new things when walking or biking in areas that you will normally miss should you be driving. Never underestimate the health rewards of walking, no matter if you?re in really good shape.

Beginners Should Take A Different Approach

In case you are presently NOT for the ideal bodyweight, lowering calories while growing your training session routines really you ought to goal for. Most beginners must achieve themselves fat loss goals rapidly. Why? Because those will regrettably quit after they don?t see immediate results. Which means you will need to work your tail end off within the beginning til you have arrived at your ideal physique. After that you will need to obtain the minimum occasions spent during a workout session each week to hold that body. There are always exceptions to the rule. Even if someone has arrived at their fitness goal, it?s ok to boost your exercise routine frequency for a short period of time. Occasions when you want to look sharper with lower fat could be an event, vacation, wedding, or reunion.

Consume less food, Move Daily, Maintain Achievements

If you make a habit of eating a little less than you normally do while actively moving throughout the day, you will be amazed how much it will change your body. You won?t have to worry about asking what exercise burn the most calories because that isn?t really the main issue. So grab your sneakers or vibrams and enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. Keep up with your intermittent fasting and you will be way ahead of the game compared to others who are actively driving themselves into the ground with exercise.

Have you ever asked what exercise burns the most calories? Adam Johnson has helped thousands of men and women understand why an ideal diet is more important than exercise.. Free reprint available from: Why You Don?t Need To Worry About What Exercise Burns The Most Calories.

COTTAGE?GROVE, Ore. - Coiner Park in Cottage Grove went to the dogs Saturday.

People and their pooches packed the park for the 4th Annual "Wiener Dog" Races and Costume Show.

Wiener dogs, and some big dogs too, put on their best costumes and strutted their stuff on the cat-walk for judges.

Dogs dressed in all sorts of costumes, from a bumble bee to a bathing beauty.

But one dog owner took the meaning literally, dressing her dog in a suit and tie just like former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner.

Dogs also raced down a chute, for prizes.

Proceeds from the event went to the South Valley Little League and the Cottage Grove Humane Society.

Worsening Greek debt crisis sinks stocks, euro (AP)

NEW YORK ? Unrest in Greece rattled global financial markets Wednesday. Stocks fell the most since June 1 as investors piled into lower-risk assets like the dollar and U.S. government bonds.

A report on manufacturing in the New York area also came in far below forecasts. That reignited fears that factory production, one of the few bright spots in the U.S. economy, may be weaker than many economists had believed.

Thousands of people gathered on the streets of Athens to protest government cutbacks required by international lenders. Demonstrators hurled rocks at riot police, who responded with tear gas. Greece's prime minister said he would name a new Cabinet after talks to form a new government with opposition parties failed.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 178.84 points, or 1.5 percent, to close at 11,897.27. The drop erased all of its 123-point gain from Tuesday and put the average on track for a seventh straight week of losses. All 30 companies in the Dow dropped, led by Aluminum maker Alcoa Inc. which lost 2.9 percent. Alcoa's stock tends to swing with shifting moods about the global economy.

Shares in energy companies also fell. Chevron Corp. and Exxon Mobil Corp both lost more than 2 percent.

The S&P 500 index fell 22.45, or 1.7 percent, to 1,265.42. The Nasdaq fell 47.26, or 1.8 percent, to 2,631.46.

If Greece defaults on its debt it could cause investors to dump the bonds of other weak European nations like Portugal, Spain and Ireland, raising borrowing costs for those countries. It could also cause the dollar to further strengthen against the euro, making U.S. products more expensive abroad. That acts as a drag on corporate profits. Earlier in the year a declining dollar played a key role in boosting corporate earnings and sending stocks higher.

Large U.S. companies like Boeing Co., Caterpillar Inc. and Oracle Corp. sell many of their products abroad, which puts their sales and profits at risk if the dollar strengthens. Companies in the S&P 500 index get 20 percent of their profits from Europe.

June is shaping up to be the worst month for the stock market since May 2010. Stocks have risen only three days this month and have fallen 11. The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 index are now 7 percent below the highs they reached in late April.

"It's sell and ask questions later," said Steven Goldman, chief market strategist at Weeden & Co. in Greenwich, Conn.

The euro slid 2 percent against the dollar as the worsening Greek debt crisis undermined confidence in Europe's shared currency.

U.S. government bond prices climbed as investors sought safer assets. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, fell to 2.97 percent from 3.10 percent late Tuesday.

In the latest sign of how Greece's problems could affect other countries, credit ratings agency Moody's said it may downgrade its ratings of France's three largest banks because of their exposure to Greek debt.

Greece's fiscal problems had appeared to be solved a year ago with a package of emergency loans, but it became clear this spring that the country would need more help from its European neighbors to avoid a default. On Monday, Standard & Poor's slashed Greece's creditworthiness to the bottom of the 131 countries that have ratings.

The June Empire State Manufacturing Survey came in well below forecasts. The survey from the New York Federal Reserve found that conditions for New York manufacturers are weakening and orders are falling. A measure of optimism among factory owners in the state fell to its lowest level since early 2009.

Analysts said investors should expect stock trading to be volatile as uncertainty about the economy persists. The housing market remains weak and the jobs market is sluggish. Questions loom about whether lawmakers will support raising the nation's borrowing limit by an Aug. 2 deadline. The Federal Reserve's $600 billion bond-buying program is also winding down at the end of June. The program was designed to keep interest rates low to encourage borrowing.

"The markets are nervous, investors are nervous, and so we expect volatility," said Oliver Pursche, president of Gary Goldberg Financial Services.

Pandora Media Inc. jumped 9 percent to $17.42 on its first day of trading. The Internet radio company priced its initial public offering at $16 a share, the high end of its range, reflecting hot demand for online companies.

Owens-Illinois Inc. fell 13 percent after the glass container company said higher manufacturing and delivery costs led it to cut its second-quarter earnings outlook.

Five shares fell for every one that rose on the New York Stock Exchange. Despite the sell-off, consolidated trading was only slightly heavier than usual at 4.2 billion shares.

True Tales From Trademarkia: When Twitter Was A Christmas-Ornament ...

Browse >
Home / All for Trees / True Tales From Trademarkia: When Twitter Was A Christmas-Ornament Company

Raj Abhyanker remembers one of his first encounters in the world of trademarks. His dad owned a retail store specializing in Apple products, Computers plus, in Phoenix, meaning Abyanker grew up around technology. when the Internet emerged in the early ?90s, about the time Abhyanker was graduating high school, Abhyanker counted himself among the people who favored the open World Wide Web over the proprietary walled garden of AOL and other subscription services. AOL had a bulletin board through its service; Abhyanker, meanwhile, registered the domain name AOLClassifieds.com, which mimicked the AOL site. AOL sent the high-schooler a cease-and-desist letter, and offered to buy it off Abhyanker.

?Five thousand bucks,? he says. ?It was nothing. This was before the Internet really took off. I should have just renamed it eBay,? he laughs.

Years later, after journeys through several Internet startups, publishing (he founded MacInsider), and law school, Abhyanker finds himself on the other side of the trademark equation. As the CEO of Trademarkia.com, he?s now in the business of sending cease-and-desist letters. and his interesting website, which makes logos and trademarks easily searchable to common folk, is growing. it has 3 million pageviews a month, and it?s working on new features, including a visual-recognition service you can use to upload a logo and automatically check to see if it infringes on someone else?s trademark.

For the uninitiated, here?s a brief tour of what Trademarkia can do (some features date back to its September 2009 launch; others are more recent). First and foremost, the central innovation of Trademarkia was to take information that the U.S. government had and to make it easily searchable to the lay person. I asked Abhyanker how, prior to 2009, someone would search to see if their logo infringed on someone else?s.

?You couldn?t,? he said. you were pretty much boxed into hiring a lawyer, someone with expertise to navigate the byzantine system, which involves numerical codes that describe the features of certain logos.

Now, say you have an idea for a logo for your brand, something involving a red triangle. you go to Trademarkia?s logo search bar (new within the last four months), enter ?triangle, red,? and press search. Trademarkia pulls up an array of trademarked logos that somehow involve triangularity and redness (it might not always be a red triangle, specifically.) it also mentions whether the trademarks are live or not, and when they were filed.

A drop-down menu allows you to get extremely specific about the kinds of triangles you?re interested in. maybe you really meant to search for ?pennants,? or for ?flags with forked sides? maybe you?re a gestaltist, and had in mind ?incomplete triangles? or ?triangles made of broken or dotted lines.? Click on ?triangles touching or intersecting,? say, and you?ll be whisked to a page featuring only logos with that structure. This is all information that has been catalogued by the U.S. government, stretching back over a century?it just was never readily, easily available, before Trademarkia.

Trademarkia is fun to tool around with, and obviously, it can help you avoid infringing on someone else?s rights. you can also use it, though, to get ideas. Trademarkia also lets you zero in on ?dead marks,? logos for which the trademark has expired or been abandoned. These are fair game for you to use or build on. to that end, Trademarkia has a tab called ?brand creator?; type in a keyword, and it will give you suggestions of logos and names you can rescue from oblivion and breathe new life into.

Isn?t it courting disaster to christen your new ship after one that?s already sunk? Not so, says Abhyanker. ?It may seem inauspicious,? he says, but he is able to refute the idea pretty swiftly by pointing to a few examples of names that didn?t work the first time around, only to succeed later. consider, for instance, ?Googles,? which offered ?sports goggles for use in swimming and snow skiing, and straps for said goggles.? or, for that matter, ?Twitter,? the Christmas-tree ornament company from the ?70s. or how about ?Yahoo,? a bootmaking operation, circa 1990. There?s no such thing as a cursed name?and the same might go for logos. ?A lot of times names can come back to life,? says Abhyanker.

There are a variety of other uses for the site. Amateur historians cite it in Wikipedia articles, when tracing the design history of a given company. Journalists sign up for alerts for when Apple or Facebook or any number of other companies file logos and trademarks, since the information surfacing from the government can often predate a product announcement.

And for Abhyanker, of course, the site is a money-making proposition. The site actually grew out of his Mountain View, Calif., law practice; he focuses on, predictably, trademark, copyright, and domain law. in some ways, Abyhanker?s Internet startup is just a really elaborate and innovative form of marketing for his firm, which, he says, has become ?the largest trademark-filing law firm in the world.? Though many of the site?s features, like the logo search, are free, taking actual action based on what you find there will cost you money. Abhyanker charges $159 to claim a dead trademark for yourself, for instance.

His main mission, says Abhyanker, is ?to organize legal information so that it?s useful to average people.? The dry rolls of the trademark office have ?lots of hidden treasures,? he says. ?We take otherwise boring legal information,? he says, ?and find gems.?

10 congressmen sue Obama over strikes in Libya (AP)

WASHINGTON ? A bipartisan group of 10 lawmakers is suing President Barack Obama for taking military action against Libya without war authorization from Congress.

The lawmakers say Obama violated the Constitution in bypassing Congress and using international organizations like the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to authorize military force.

The lawmakers want a judge to issue an order suspending military operations without congressional approval. They said they were filing their lawsuit Wednesday against Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The plaintiffs are Democratic Reps. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, John Conyers of Michigan and Michael Capuano of Massachusetts and Republican Reps. Walter Jones and Howard Coble of North Carolina, Tim Johnson of Illinois, Dan Burton of Indiana, Jimmy Duncan of Tennessee, Roscoe Bartlett of Maryland and Ron Paul of Texas.

Wedding Wednesday: Eco-friendly, Affordable Flowers

Even though fresh-cut flowers are the most popular choice when it comes to bouquets and wedding decorations, silk flowers have been gaining popularity with tree-huggers and penny-pinchers. Silk flowers are eco-friendly because they don?t come from pesticide-riddled mass-production farms which create pollution during harvest and transport. These flowers look real, smell real and they cost?half?the price of?real buds. Plus, they last well past the nuptials and make a great keepsake for the bride and bridal party.

Silk flowers can be used to create wedding bouquets, boutonnieres (for the Father of the Bride), corsages, centerpieces, cake-toppers and more. Here are some examples of these realistic flower arrangements:

Cake-toppers

Bouquet Suggestions from the Bridal Team at WedIdea.com

When selecting your bouquets, you should search first for the overall look that you are after. Do you want something elegant and simple? Bold? Tropical? Something romantic or classic?

If you?re going for?

Elegant and Simple: Try not to mix too many types of flowers. Less is more here.

Bold: Look for interesting colors that will make a splash against Bridesmaids dresses, like Coral & Turquoise, Yellow & Black, and Periwinkle & Green.

Tropical: Callas, Orchids, Stargazers, Roses and so much more. You can add seashells as fillers and always keep Citric Colors in mind.

Classic: Roses are a wedding classic, but you can also consider Gardenias, Stephanotis, Baby?s Breath, Lilies and Callas have become a classic too! Keep the colors within the traditional choices.

For your own wedding, would you (or did you) go silk? What do you think of this trend?

Education Is Key To Successful Home Improvement Projects - home ...

Fixing or installing anything in your house, especially a home entertainment room, is a job that requires some personal motivation and some do-it-yourself knowledge. Sometimes, however, there are a few things that might intimidate even you. Don?t worry, because as long as you plan out the exact process from beginning to end, you will succeed. Going too fast will inevitably lead to errors so slow down and take your time. You can find just about any type of project explained on the net, and there are loads of books available. All you need to do is take the first steps to learning. By simply acquiring everything that you need, and planning ahead, you will be ready to go.

One of the worst possible outcomes after working on plumbing is a leak. Hopefully you do a good job with the plumbing, because having a leaky pipe is a pain. When you do the job correctly in the first place, it will save you a lot of aggravation. There are two things you need with plumbing, knowledge and experience. If you use the wrong sealing materials, you will probably end up having leaks, and you don?t want that. Never, ever reuse any type of sealing compound, nylon tape, gaskets or o-rings. Any type of rubber devices needed for sealing, should never be reused because they will eventually leak. Any store with a plumbing department can replace your original parts with parts that will be exact matches.

Your home improvement project will fail unless you have the correct equipment. One thing that tends to happen is you discover you need something, like a particular tool, and you do not have it. We know you will try to make do without it, or work with some other tool that looks like it will work. I know that people will try and do this because I have done it many times before! But it?s not the best way to go about things, personally I just go ahead and buy whatever I need. By using the correct tools you?ll be rest assured that the job has been done properly. Trust me on this.

What follows is an easy betterment of the home that can be done in a small amount of time. Identify and tag all of your water valves and electrical circuit breakers. If your home does not use circuit breakers but fuses, do the same. This is due to a quicker emergency response when it involves electrical systems in your home or water. Providing that a pipe should blow, you would have no trouble finding where it was broken so you could stop the leak.

If there was a problem with the electronics that demanded isolation, you would be able to identify which fuse to pull or circuit breaker to be opened. This is smart planning and can minimize possible damage to your home.

Home improvement plans at their finest are ones that go fluidly, people stay safe, and everything works the right way when finished and brings about fun. Always work safely around your home on even the smallest projects. The standard risks encompass falling providing you are laboring high up and electrical dangers. Assuming you work on pivoting equipment, make sure you are wearing safety protective gear.

Redlands Community Hospital employees awarded $17 million in suit

REDLANDS - After winning an initial class-action lawsuit against Redlands Community Hospital last summer, a group of about 1,000 former employees have now been awarded more than $17 million in lost wages and damages.

According to San Bernardino Superior Court records, the plaintiffs, Elias Guta Urga, Joel M. Dalangin and Gary Gordon were awarded $17.5 million, plus the costs of the lawsuit, by Judge Janet M. Frangie, who set aside the jury's original award of $55,000.

The plaintiffs' lawyer, Santa-Ana based attorney Frank Coughlin, declined to comment.

The suit alleged that the hospital lowered the base pay of employees working 12-hour shifts after a 1999 state law passed requiring overtime pay for employees working more than eight hours a day.

"They cut the wages to make it look like I was making overtime when I was making the same amount as before," Urga said last year.

"We want to get paid for all of the hours we didn't get paid, according to the law," the former respiratory therapist said in May of 2010.

But the hospital said that its employees had a choice, and the majority said they would rather work the 12-hour shifts.

"In late 1999, the hospital discussed the new law with its staff and gave them an opportunity to vote on keeping 12-hour shifts or changing to 8-hour shifts," said Kathi Sankey-Robinson, vice president of business development and marketing.

"To accommodate the staff, the

hospital adjusted the rate of pay for those working 12-hour shifts to allow for the state-mandated overtime."

She said that a judge's decision not to allow the findings of a Labor and Workforce Development Agency investigation was an error the hospital intends to appeal.

Sankey-Robinson said that the hospital is "disappointed in the judge's recent decision in overturning the jury's financial award," and will "vigorously contest this decision and will appeal accordingly."

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas Share PDA-Filled Date Night at Tonys

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas Share PDA-Filled Date Night at Tonys

Has Alec Baldwin fallen for a yoga teacher? The 30 Rock actor, 53, attended the Tony Awards on Sunday night with beautiful 28-year-old yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas. And witnesses tell Us Weekly that they couldn't keep their hands off each other!

One source says that Baldwin grabbed his lady's derriere backstage... during a conversation with Kelsey Grammer. (Awkward!) And the pair has been dating for at least a month, attending a swanky Carnegie Hall party in May and several other big New York City events. Could the committed single man be changing his tune?

An insider tells Us that, although Baldwin pledged allegiance to bachelorhood after his messy divorce from Kim Basinger, his new romance "might be a little more serious." And Hilaria sounds like a pretty cool lady: According to her yoga-instructor bio, Thomas spent her childhood in both the U.S. and Spain, was a professional ballroom dancer by the time she was a teenager, and studied art history and dance at N.Y.U. (also Baldwin's alma mater). As a bonus, if Baldwin does indeed run for mayor of New York City, Thomas would look fabulous by his side.

But even though the pair has gone public, they won't comment on their romance. Last week, Thomas reportedly snapped at a reporter from The New York Post when they called to ask about Baldwin. Baldwin's rep was more good-natured about the question, telling the Post that Baldwin has "actually been dating (his Rock of Ages costar) Russell Brand down in South Florida." Now that would make his mayoral campaign interesting!

Guinness names Filipino as world's shortest man (AP)

SINDANGAN, Philippines ? A poor Filipino blacksmith's son who stands less than 2 feet (60 centimeters) tall was declared the world's shortest man by Guinness World Records on his 18th birthday Sunday, sparking a celebration in his hometown.

The title was bestowed on Junrey Balawing in Sindangan in the southern Philippines, with his parents, villagers and officials showering the coastal town's newly famous resident with a feast of roasted pigs and seafood, cake, balloons and cash gifts.

Balawing measured 23.5 inches (60 centimeters) during the ceremony attended by about 100 villagers and journalists at the town hall. Guinness World Records representative Craig Glenday presented Balawing with official recognition of his status as the shortest adult man in the world, with the framed certificate nearly reaching the ears of the standing recipient.

Balawing, who wore a white shirt emblazoned with the Guinness seal, took over the title from Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal, who is 26.4 inches (67 centimeters) tall, Glenday said.

Dozens of journalists descended on Sindangan, a fishing and farming town of 90,000 located about 450 miles (730 kilometers) south of Manila, to cover the event.

"Thank you," Balawing told the crowd in a local dialect which was translated by his father, Reynaldo. Balawing tried repeatedly before managing to blow out the candles on the cake and clapped heartily each time the crowd applauded. He was later heard saying "Kapoy," or "I'm tired."

Balawing ? who is about the size of a toddler and has a child's demeanor ? needs to hold onto something to stand because of weak knees. He was photographed propping himself up with empty Coca-Cola bottles, which were taller than his waistline.

Balawing's mother grew teary-eyed during the ceremony, saying she was happy with her son's instant fame.

Glenday said he was struck by Balawing's lively personality and constant smile.

"Although he's short, he takes that in stride," Glenday told The Associated Press. "He has this cheeky smile."

Aside from the Guinness certificate, the crown does not come with any cash award. Glenday said he hopes the international fame will bring in gifts and donations, particularly medical supplies to ensure Balawing's health.

Nobody could explain why Balawing stopped growing two months after his birth, his father said, adding that he first walked with help from his parents when he was 5 years old.

Sindangan Vice Mayor Bess Jagonio, a doctor, speculated that he may have had an endocrine or a birth-related defect.

Balawing's brother and two sisters are all average size.

His family said they tried to send Balawing to school but withdrew him after he distracted other children's attention.

Local officials got the idea of informing the Guinness records committee about Balawing from journalists who learned about his size.

Summer Entertaining with World Market {Plus a Giveaway!} | Our ...

My love affair with World Market started when I was just a kid.? I think I was in 6th grade when my friend and would sometimes get dropped off at the mall to hang out and we?d always walk over to World Market.? They used to sell the most amazing little rose-flavored candies.? Yes, roses- as in the flowers.? They were so so good.? To this day every time I walk into a A World Market store, I keep my eye out for them.? Now that I?m grown up and actually have use for the amazing household items in the store, I buy more than candy!? I buy much more than candy.? I love World Market like Kate loves Target.? We?re talking serious business here.? Some might classify it as an obsessive relationship.? I mentioned in a photography post that I did a while back that a huge number of the dishes and table linens you see in my food photographs, including the photos in our cookbook, have come from World Market.? They sell an amazing selection of cookware, dishes, and specialty items.? Remember the adorable little mugs you all were raving about in my hot chocolate post?? Yep.? World Market. ? They also sell a great selection of furniture, housewares, gifts, jewelry, accessories (see the cute floral headband I?m wearing in the next pic?? World Market!), over 500 international wines, gourmet foods and specialty drinks imported from more than 50 countries.? It?s seriously one of my most favorite places, which is why I jumped at the chance to host a party compliments of World Market.? I had the perfect occasion this past weekend while I was in my home town of Seattle; my favorite sister (okay, she?s my only sister, but for reals, she?s my favorite) was having a birthday!

That?s my sister Becca.? She?s awesome.? She?s an amazing cook (I actually photographed her making something this weekend that I?m going to post soon)? She?s insanely creative (we?re talking like, she built a to-scale replica of my parents house in gingerbread last Christmas. Okay, and she has a college minor in art, but seriously the gingerbread was sweet) and she does crazy cool stuff like rescue orphaned animals and train them to release them back into the wild.? No joke.? She taught a half-dead bird how to eat.? And then fly.? She?s like an animal whisperer.? She?s also single.? In case you know someone.? Just sayin?

I had a perfectly lovely backyard meal in my mind and I found everything I needed at World Market.? Sometimes when you envision outdoor entertaining you immediately think of paper plates and plastic tablecloths.? I love to mix and match and bring some of my indoor things out.? I started out with a crisp white tablecloth, and added a bamboo table runner.? I love how the bamboo is kind of rustic and fits in with an outdoor theme.

Then I used some plain white plates.? This is a fabulous thing to have.? World Market sells a lot of these buffet sets; plain white dishes in all sizes that come in these nice holders.? They?re affordable, and great to have on hand for big group meals.

I didn?t want them to get lost on the white tablecloth though so I used these awesome chargers.? Aren?t they fantastic?? This is my most favorite color so I couldn?t resist.? They?re a heavy duty plastic so they?re super easy to clean too.? I love these.

On top of the white plates, I placed these fun melamine dessert plates.? They?re light weight and inexpensive; perfect for outdoor entertaining!? I love the colors in them, and found cloth napkins in a matching color too.

One of my favorite things to do on an outdoor table is light candles.? There?s something about a breeze, and summer weather, and flickering candles, that makes you want to stay at that table for hours.? I LOVE these purple glass lanterns.? Those things are big, and only 8 bucks!? They matched the purple in the plates perfectly.

World Market has a gazillion different styles of little votive holders.? I?m madly in love with these blue square ones.? I grabbed a bunch of different styles and colors and scattered them around.? All the colors tied into the plates so they all matched when put together.

See those cute drinks?? One of my favorite things.

World Market Italian Sodas.? They have a bunch of flavors; my family loves the Blood Orange.? The Mango Passion Fruit is yummy too.

The personal sized bottles look so cute on a dinner table.? Sort of casual-chic.

My sister bought her own flowers (okay, and she made? half of this meal herself too.? She?s rad like that.)? How crazy beautiful are these peonies??

Seriously I couldn?t stop staring at them.? I love fresh flowers on a dinner table, especially an outdoor one.

Just make sure when you?re entertaining that you use shallow vases or bowls so you don?t block people?s faces.

Okay I?ll stop swooning over the flowers.? Back to food.? For an appetizer, I grabbed a great pesto, and also a Piquillo and Artichoke Bruschetta spread.? Both were amazing.? I could eat that artichoke stuff with a spoon.? Okay I sort of did.? Both came from World Market.? Did I mention they have food there?? Food from all around the world?? Ya, they do.? And lots and lots of chocolate and treats too.

I need to make a knock-off of that artichoke spread asap.

My family also loves these chips.? They taste similar to those Pop Chips that are popular right now.

My kiddos love ?em!? They also have lots of fun trinkets, toys, and novelty items at World Market.? My kids beg for stuff every time we go there and I usually say no, so this time I grabbed a bunch of toys to keep them busy while the grown-ups ate.? It worked brilliantly.

We also grilled up (and by we I mean my husband) one of my all-time-favorite summer meals, Italian Chicken and Vegetable Skewers.? Per my sister?s request we (and by we I mean my sister) also made? Caramel Toffee Fruit Dip.? (Are you starting to wonder if I cooked anything at all??) And a yummy Pear and Gorgonzola Salad.

For dessert (seriously I made this one myself.? I mean, I bought this one myself.? It counts, I swear.) I picked up some Seattle-famed Trophy Cupcakes.? I have to be honest and say that when it comes to gourmet cupcake shops, I?ve been disappointed way more times than I?ve been pleased.? But Trophy came through!? These babies were amazing.

All in all it was a gorgeous night with fantastic company.? Nothing better than friends and family on a beautiful summer night at a beautiful summer table!

Since I had so much fun on my own little shopping spree, I thought I?d share the love!? Kate and I would love for one of? you to get to have a shopping spree at World Market as well so we?re going to give away a

Holla!? Take a look at the World Market e-catalog right now and you?ll find a $10 off $30 coupon you can use right now.?
