Youth baseball

T The Athletics, a Little League team from the Travis AFB Youth Baseball program, participated in the ?Take The Field With The A?s? program with the Oakland Athletics. The team was selected from numerous teams throughout the Bay Area. The little A?s observed the National Anthem with the major league A?s, taking actual positions on the field with the players during the ceremony. Each player received a t-shirt, pen and baseball which was autographed by the player they took positions with. What made this event even more memorable was that it was also Father?s Day and the young player?s fathers also took the field. Afterwards, the team watched the Oakland A?s beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1, sweeping the Giants in the third victory of the Bay Bridge Series. The coaches, Tony Chavez and Dan Poffenbarger, treated little A?s to a visit to the Stomper Zone where they participated in activities such as batting cage, pitching, kicking a soccer ball into a net and a free temporary tattoo. One team member proved that his athletic skills are not limited to the baseball field by kicking the soccer ball into a smaller net and winning a Stomper puppet. The players each received an Athletics BBQ grill set after completing all the activities in the Stomper Zone.?

NBEFC Barcelona U11 Girls participated at the Premier tier in the National Cup X Modesto Regional ?Tournament, starting off with the Stockton Storm Pumas. ?Jazmine Carranza-Martinez fired a penalty-kick past their keeper from outside of the box resulting in a 3-1 loss. Coach Zac Masters said, ??As with our first game of the weekend, sometimes they won?t always go in the net, due to a number of different reasons. Either the goalkeeper is playing like a new member of the National Team or we are just that unlucky;? which in the case of this game, had both. I felt that the players continued to play and, while frustrating, we learned from it.? Our second game was great in that we were able to score a number of goals and try to do some things.? It also allowed me to move some players around and try some different things with them.? I thought, for having never been in that situation before, they did a great job of doing what I asked.? The referee complimented the team after the game on our sportsmanship.?? In the second game, Barcelona competed with the California Cougars, where Savina Filip and Zoey Lyon each completed two goals, while Makayla Netcott, Abbey Wolf, and Cheyenne Robinson each scored one, to finalize a shut-out of 7-0. Barcelona fought hard against Davis Legacy in a 1-1 tie. ?We took our shots and they took their shots.? Masters said. ?I thought our last game was actually the best game we have played this spring.? We applied all the things we have worked on, from an attacking standpoint, and the players did all of the things they needed to do.? I was extremely proud of them and the effort they gave.? In summary, this was a great weekend for us as a team, and we applied all the things we have been working on this spring.? It is a process, but I saw a lot of improvement in the team.?? Savina Filip scored the lone goal for Barcelona.
