A Wish List (list target) for the teaching of mathematics in this ...

Everyone knows that mathematics instruction in this country is a mess. The national press has recently (November 9, 2010), it was announced that Harvard University has published a report claims that pupils in schools in the U.S. 31 high ranking of 56 countries in mathematics. The report also notes published that only 6% of high school students advanced math topics, and this is true for both public and private schools. Then the relationship will, as always, blame the teacher. Theindicated that the teacher most suited to solve our problems. If only it were that simple.

Over the next two weeks it will be important to the various attempts that were made ??to mathematics education, and explains why has not it works (so as not to repeat them) to establish the analysis of the terrible failure of the first year algebra describing sentence describes some new teaching techniques improve, things get a little "in math class right Hours, and finally describes the great paradigm shift that I believe must happen before any real progress can occur.

Of course, to be competitive in the global market is a necessary objective, and "the number 1 in the world" may be a desirable goal, but these are not the only issues of concern. The following goals in no particular order, are all important, as the two just mentioned. If we achieve these goals, we will be more on the way to success> Teaching of mathematics.

1st What No Child Left Behind will be completed and further tests need Federal Republic.

2nd Assuming that the desired high degree of four years of higher mathematics (algebra, geometry, advanced algebra and calculus, for example) will become a reality, and realistic.

3rd That all teachers are well paid and with the latest brain-based teaching methods.

4th What is math anxiety eliminated.

5th That each child has the necessary foundation for success in school mathematics.

6th That the failure rate will decrease from 50% to 0% algebra.

7th That all girls want to take math and science and is successful in both.

8th That is to say never again a student: "I hate math."

9th They show that the persistence of young children to learn, walk, speak, read and will be expanded to > Mathematics.

10th The almost innate understanding that our children, who are intelligent enough to learn and able to walk, speak, read and learn in real terms for mathematics as well.

11th What ever saying a student of mathematics: "It's too difficult I can not.."

12th That students begin to really enjoy math because it is simple and understandable.

13th That parents feel confident that their children are using> The math to do the same as now, the language.

14th The public schools and local authorities have the role of parents help their children help with math.

15th That no parent ever say again: "I was not good at math not."

16th That everyone who comes to understand the importance of mathematics in our lives.

17th That all the "holes" ? male vs. female, vs.black white, rich against poor, etc. ? will disappear.

And so on. Imissed some important goals to achieve? Probably. I know that not many of these goals are possible, to the great paradigm shift happens, but I also know that we are working on some of these at the moment. The more we are able to achieve today, the closer we are to resolve our problems of mathematics. We can not afford to fail.
